Some 90 minutes later and a few miles down the line, we see the two engines hauling a local freight service through Bedford en route to Halifax.

I think I've found my new favorite set of steam locomotives.

Derek Miller's CB&Q K4s and S4s are absolutely fantastic locomotives, and have been a blast to drive. I've posted a few screenshots of the S4.







So much, that they'll form the basis for my fictional's steam program.

And the K4. The sounds and steam effects aren't quite as good as the Hudson, but the 3D Cab more than makes up for it. (I can fix those. Maybe Derek might be willing to also?)

I'm running it with a short Saturday train of 4 chair cars and a RPO.







At this point, I was starting to go up a %1.3 percent grade.



While I got some great stack talk, I was afraid I'd stall on the grade.



But I made it up the hill, and gained speed once more.





I need more practice with steam locomotives.

I always thought the Canyon Diablo bridge was a little underwhelming in SLI's Seligman 2, so I made a few little adjustments to the terrain around it in TSRE. The bridge itself is still the same model, but a few new piers here and there seem to help anchor it to the ground a little better.

Back in the 50's, when I was a boy, the Dominion & Atlantic still was putting its steam engines to work on a daily basis. Here are a few shots from way back then.

Ferrocarril Provincial de Buenos Aires (FCPBA, Province of Buenos Aires Railway), was a company that had its head in La Plata, capital of the province of Buenos Aires (not to be confused with the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, about fifty kilometers away, capital of the Argentine Republic, where is the Caminito, the Obelisco, Puerto Madero, the Casa Rosada, the National Congress and the Teatro Colón. The FCPBA did not enter the City), with a metric-gauge railway. Its urban branch went to Avellaneda, so it is also necessary to clarify that the La Plata and Avellaneda stations of the Ferrocarril General Roca (FCGR, General Roca Railway) are not related to the homonyms of the FCPBA, except that they were in the same cities. The Provincial also had branches that served the Buenos Aires pampas, with great agricultural and livestock activity, although also with industrial activities, such as those of the Loma Negra (cement) and Sasetru (food) companies.

The 903-kilometer route gradually ceased to exist from 1961 to 1977, year in which only the local branch to Avellaneda and a small section that communicated with the harbor survived. Currently, along its routes you can see ruins, on some sides, or absolutely nothing, in other places. At least the urban sector, today it would serve to transport half a million people per day, if it existed, a sector that today is covered by buses ("colectivos") that turn out to be a greater cost of infrastructure.

"Matías VG" recreated the entirety of the FCPBA for ORTS, which I fell in love with due to the scenic quality and the proximity of that train for me, from the physical point of view.

I am recreating the 1958 itineraries of this railway. I do it in Open Rails timetable mode, much more comfortable than activity mode, to program the hundreds of trains that ran per day. This is why I am learning timetable mode commands and other details, and why I am trying to implement the turntable in timetable mode, still without success.

An interesting detail of this line was that the two main branches formed a "Y", with La Plata being the junction between both routes. Urban and long-distance trains arrived in La Plata. The long-distance trains, although they ended in La Plata, continued to Avellaneda with local numbers and with the same coaches but with local locomotives, which enabled passengers to continue the journey without having to change coaches. In Open Rails, this is a great generator of $detach, $attach, and $pickup situations. As well as situations where postal wagons or milk drums are added or removed.

In the screenshot you can see a FIAT locomotive type "Transfer", number 6811. It is waiting for its schedule. Behind it is a MAN railcar from RENFE, fictitiously adapted to look like a Sulzer railcar, the kind that the Provincial had. The capture is taken from the yard of La Plata, looking at the passenger station.
