Speaking on an old game still looking good...

It took a while but I once again am enjoying my triple-screen set up - and now with wider monitors. MSTS-OR really shines at 5760x1080!!

That's great for when you've got 'acres and acres of just acres', as I once had Manitoba described to me. How does it work in more 'vertical' scenes?

Sorry for the delay in replying, this somehow got overlooked.

I'm thinking in terms of Colorado or Rocky mountain routes, where you have high peaks and deep valleys. The Feather River or Rollins Pass routes would be fair examples.

Rob.

Rob, I'll check a few out this weekend and post some pics. Thanks for the suggestion.

I love my triple screen option as it helps with the immersive factor. [If only I could use my Oculus VR ...sigh. Still don't understand why even the newest railroad sims don't recognize the interest in and value of VR is simming. But thats a whole different topic... ;) ].

Here's a little sampling of pictures on the WP Feather River Route. It's the early 1950s, and the days of regular steam operations on the Western Pacific Railroad are numbered. While down in the Feather River Canyon, I caught quite a few trains heading up and down the mountain. After spending the morning in the canyon, it's time to head home. However, just as I'm leaving, a deep whistle echoes down the canyon. Sure enough, after just a couple of minutes an eastbound empty grain train shows up heading for Portola, with big 2-8-8-2 articulated steam locomotive number 260 on the point. As I am heading in the same direction, I decide to Follow the train and catch some photographs on the way back to town. The first shot is just a short distance above Spring Garden.

I jump ahead of the train and catch him again at sloat siding, with the deep throated sounds of the big articulated locomotive echoing off the surrounding mountains.

The next location is east of Blairsden, not far from the Clio trestle.

Shot number four is just outside of Portola. The crew just has a short distance left before they reach the end of their run.

And now for the fifth and final shot, 260 has completed its run up the canyon. The locomotive has been cut off the train, and the crew handed her over to the hostlers who will be in charge of getting 260 ready for her trip back to Oroville. A pair of F units will take over the train for the remainder of the trip. Meanwhile, the crew has a few hours until the arrival of the westbound freight that they will take back down the canyon, so they've headed off into town to find some lunch.
