The D&RGW #0459 water car has a most interesting history. It began life as a standard gauge tank car, but was purchased by the Contiental Oil Co and converted to narrow gauge CONX 17. In 1939 it became D&RGW Water Car 0450 and was assigned to the Farmington branch. In the 1940s it was painted black but in the 1950s sported grey paint. In 1960 the tank was mounded on steel frame flat and became D&RGW water car 06217, and in 1972 the tank was placed on a pedestal and served as the Needleton water tank.

The D&RGW 06217 version has also been modeled and should be uploaded soon.

This model is available in both it’s earlier black and it’s later grey paint schemes. It was made from Werner Kempen plans in the May/June 2003 Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette, and from photos in the Narrow Gauge Pictorial, Vol X. Howard Saunders performed all file and texture tweaking, all lettering, and initial testing. Derek Miller performed a thorough inspection of the model, and Herb Kelsey performed the Beta testing and supplied the screenie.
