Somebody told somewhere about Kazakhstan's variant of (2)ТЭ10 with hood-type case like shunters have?
Here's the screenshots of MSTS model.

https://imageup.ru/img138/3543426/open-rails-2020-01-26-07-06-59.jpg
It's need to add, that ВЗОР locomotive plant designed and made heavy hood diesels for tropic environment countries like Cuba and Iraq, so-called ТЭ114 http://www.trainsim.ru/screenshots/tsrLoco_TE114-0066.jpg
Some of them were bought by industry with hot environment.

These are fitted with GE prime movers. I assume that the GE Kazhakstan plant may have been involved. There are also some similar locomotives modified from M62 series locomotives in Mongolia.

So, the "American"-like engines are made by GE's division at Kazakhstan itself?
Interesting.
My eyes were "cutted" with your word "similar", though, I understood, you mentioned the same semi-hood design.
As M62 is 1,5 times smaller and lighter, than ТЭ10. They were designed for fit European narrow tunnels and not to damage light rails with rare ties, being intended for export initially.

Try to load their model's shapes to S-viewer and you'll see.

The Mongolian locomotives are class 2ZAGAL, this url will show you a pair at work with a 27 car passenger train:-

Thinking about it, as the prime movers are 7FDL, Kazaksthan may not have been involved as I believe that they have only produced GEVO units.

If "2" indicates "2-sectioned", then it's not a pair, but a whole double unit.
However diesels are almost always 2-sectioned - i.e. two autonomous locos, (capable to act separately) with single-cab case each, MUed together for duplicating engine's power.
http://www.savelrr.ru/content/oldmedia/railroads/gallery149-025.jpg
So they have a passing bridge and MUing sockets at the end, opposite to cab.
But DC electric locos instead, are most often 2-cased, that mean, the cases contain only part of whole equipment needed, so they can work only together, forming whole locomotive.
http://seltrans.ru/img/articles/chs200-003/1.jpg
Some of them even have bar coupling between sections. Unlike AC-locos or diesels, which has sections, that can function separately without any problems.
http://www.train-photo.ru/data/media/50/55555555.jpg
The problem existed if it was neccesary to increase power only 1,5 times, instead of 2. To bypass that, the special design of circuit-ducts was added to AC locos, allowing to connect an extra section thru the cab-end; the special design of DC-sections in addition,
http://mapio.net/images-p/85569727.jpg
allowing them to function independently, or diesel sections without normal cab on both ends,
http://www.train-photo.ru/data/media/211/IMG_5111_.jpg
which could be inserted at the middle, forming 3, or even 4 section units - for hauling heavy trains thru mountains without need of using helpers.
http://www.train-photo.ru/data/media/491/4te10s-0002_otkosnaya.jpg
http://www.train-photo.ru/data/media/36/80-1001-.jpg
Modern electric locos can include such booster section without a cabs as well, regardless, AC or DC.
http://pfoto-rzd.com/data/media/500/1452_1.jpg
The booster sections for shunters looked like a motorized tender i.e. didn't have their own diesel-generator units, even hood, but just frame with two bogies, similar to locomotive's.

Prototype gas-turbine engine at VZOR plant. Lugansk.
http://cs9.pikabu.ru/post_img/2019/08/22/1/1566428198255739156.jpg
The original idea was implemented: using of 4 "free-piston gas-generators" (or abbreviated СПГГ) as a power supply.
http://cs7.pikabu.ru/post_img/2019/08/22/5/156645967917643494.jpg
In brief, it was 4 standalone units, looking like horizontal 2-stroke diesel's cylinders without a krankshaft (the air compression by the larger diameter opposite-mounted pistons were used to stop diesel's pistons, then for giving to them backward movement), exhausting gases with high energy, which were collected and directed to the turbine, coupled with hydraulic transmission.
http://railtrain.pro/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/GT101-shema.jpg
This way, the whole prime mover could be considered as a diesel engine, where power is taken not from the krankshaft, but from the huge turbo-charger.
