I recently re-downloaded the Mideast Steam route from UKTrainsim, and I cannot get the Install.Bat file to run. I thought I had best post a separate thread instead of working from R H Steele's spiked thread, as my issue appears to be different. :)
When I try to run the file, either normally or as an administrator, the code box appears for a split second and vanishes. None of the files are copied, and I am at a loss. :jawdrop2: The route is in the correct location, and appears to have unzipped properly.
Anyone have any ideas?

Open it up in note pad and see what is is supposed to copy and where from. Then you can make sure you have everything in the right place or just copy everything yourself.

Do you have MSTS installed in program files?
if yes, goto steam4me and follow the install procedure for installing MSTS outside program files.

@ engmod: I have MSTS installed outside of the program files, as per steam4me.
@ Jared: I selected "edit" and read through the list in notepad; it appears that everything is where it should be, but that nothing is being copied. Given the hundreds and hundreds of shapes involved, I would really like to get the install file working. :D
Has anyone else had this problem with the Mideast Steam route? Or any route, for that matter?

I've used a bit of a hack approach when I've had a similar problem:
Having opened up the .bat file in notepad, I then copy and paste it into the run dialog box (I'm on Windows 7 - it would be the DOS box in earlier versions . . .). The computer then carries out all the commands to copy and I'm home free.
I did have a little issue trying to figure out how to paste into the run box. Keyboard shortcuts didn't work. I think I used the menu and found paste there. Anyway it did work in the end.
My initial thought in opening the .bat file in notepad was to just do the copies manually, but there were far too many for that to be feasible.

The install.bat can be frustrating, too labor intensive to copy manually. The workaround of opening the file (usually by the edit selection) then copy and paste into the cmd or run box can work...or not. Try this site for a good sub for the windows xcopy.exe ....it's called xxcopy and works very well. http://www.xxcopy.com/. Free also...the "pro" edition may cost$. I believe there are others, don't know about them. Did you try to locate the xcopy.exe in your system and use it manually, or make sure it was called correctly? Cheers, rhs
(...it's probably not a route problem, if the correct commands appear when you look at the bat file.)

I never thought of that! Can you NOT run the install.bat and then run the route through Route Riter to find all the missing shapes and have it auto-copy them other from routes? I have used it on a correctly installed route (the install bat ran properly) and it always finds some shapes missing. Cheers, rhs

I check EVERY route I install, commercial or not.
You can stop the install.bat from running and RR will fix it for you.

I never even thought to use Route Riter; what a good idea! ;) Which functions would I use to set things straight? I should mention that I mostly use Route Riter for locos and rolling stock issues; it is a powerful tool and one push of the wrong button is as bad as some fellow in a bunker pushing the "real" button and sending us all up in a puff of smoke...
