So, great minds of the simulator, what is calling that setting back to default? :wtf01: :oldstry: :bigboss:

I can't get the darn editor window to size properly! No idea what changed or why. I check the ...\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\1.0
HWRenderer key (the normal location under Win7 for MSTS) and everything looks perfectly all right. No clues. Some weeks go by and I return to the matter today.
I get smart (for once) and go all the way tot he top of the registry and enter "HWRenderer" into the search string and initiate a search. Sometime later this pops up: HKEY_Current_User\software\classes\virtualStore\Machine\Software\Nvidia Corporation\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\1.0\HWRenderer and therein is the window size keys with default values.
Now I remember... I was fiddling with the Nvidia one day (for Open rails) and out of curiosity I changed something for train.exe. It must have been some time later before I used the editor again because I had forgotten all about the fiddling.
Change these keys, test... all is well again.
Lesson learned.

You can always EXPORT a Registy key to a *.REG file and run it to restore it whenever something has changed your edits !

Everything works lovely, I've got the RE window set to the size I would like, but the darn resolution is stuck at 512x512. So while the window may be larger, the quality went to total shart because its at the same resolution as the default! I can't go into the actual sim to edit my resolution, because I've got Win 8.1 and MSTS will only work in windowed mode. When I go to change the resolution, there is no options available to select.
Any way to fix this? Different registry edits?

Why??
You can set your NVIDIA card/driver to "maintain aspect ratio", then MSTS will display in its 4:3 format with black side bands in a wide screen without needing to resort to windowed mode.

I don't have that option in NVIDIA.
FYI, I have an Intel integrated card, along with an NVIDIA GT740M, with the option to choose which programs use which card. I have MSTS set to use NVIDIA.

Here's the result of a trainsim.com search for "Resource Hacker", author "charlie".

If you do the same search here, there's 5 more links. After you have backed up Dialog.dll and have it open in ResHack, the "find" function is at "View" and not at "Edit" as might be expected. Find "Placement" several times until you arrive at Dialog 144.
I've attached a view. On the 6th line, note that the font is set to 8. You can delay changes there until you do some resizing, or you can use a new size to help you decide what to do for the window size.
Two ways to go for the window. In the attached (may be hard to see, so click on it), I've clicked on the 3rd CONTROL line, and this produces a red dot to the left of the instruction. On the image, little blue dots now outline the controlled "More" button element. You can edit the "a,b,c,d" position coordinates directly, or the selected element can be mouse-dragged to a new position, and the little blue dots can be dragged independently for a new element size.
To get a start, just drag the periphery of the window to a larger size. Every time you Compile Script, you'll see that the coordinates are updated.
Almost forgot to mention; you can also edit String, dll so that the sim says what you're really thinking.

charlie

I've changed almost all of the RE windows to increase the size of the text as well as many of the windows. My monitor is 1920x1200, I've got the registry set to show RE as 1600x1200. This is a full screenshot (click on it to enlarge):

Note that in attempting to do the same thing w/ AE screens I somehow screwed the pooch and as a result I can no long run AE. That's not a big deal for me but if it is for you, tread very carefully with those.
