Dave

Welcome! Oh fellow TSM user. We can all use another one of those around here. I could use a mentor despite the fact that your from the other side of the big pond.

I too have been using Train Sim Modeler for 11 or so years. It gets a bad rap around here with the power builders for it's lack of tools and features. But for a low priced software it's still turning out some mighty fine models. Who can dispute that! It's not what you use, but how you use it, my old pappy used to tell me.

Glad to have you on board with the OR builders.

Allen :oldstry:

You can now start your very own TSM support group, Allen. :thumbup3: :clapping:

I agree, there's been some very fine TSM built models over the years. It's a pity that the original version was never upgraded.

Cheers Bazza

Hi.

I'm Rui and I'm the director of CP virtual. We develop Portuguese freeware for MSTS and have been very interested on OR for quite some time.

Hi! He recently completed simulation model of the diesel engine for the OR. Model of 29.278 polys. Under the MSTS model is displayed is not correct, there is a disappearance of small parts of the model, and under the OR are all displayed correctly. If you have interest, you can download it here.
Features of the model:
Photorealistic views
Animation blinds
Animation doors
Model created by the factory of the manufacturer's drawings

Sorry for the my anglish :(

Started out way back in the beginning of MSTS, with TSM. Released a few freight cars over the years, including my recent high detail stuff done in GMAX. Still haven't attempted the "holy grail" of modeling: A locomotive. Kind of afraid to, to be honest...

Been interested in OR from the beginning, but dropped out of the TSing scene for a couple of years due to a PC that absolutely wouldn't run MSTS no matter what I tried...

Back now, and working with OR, and looking forward to 1.0, and then moving on to seeing all kinds of shiny new features!

Robert

Hi,

I built my first model for MSTS in 2007. For this first experience, I choose a relatively simple wagon, modified to be used as a snowplough (I upgraded the model in 2010):

http://www.bb25187.eu/Img/CNNevers_v2.jpg

Since that time, I modelled various types of French electrical and diesel engines, railcars, freight wagons, passenger cars. You can see a few of those models below (the complete collection is visible on my website):

Some of those models have been converted for Trainz with my authorization.
I also modelled a German DB169 and the Swiss Crocodile Ce 6/8 II and Be 6/8 II.

From time to time, I also built some scenery objects.

I am using TSM as a modelling tool.
I built all my models for MSTS so far. OpenRails gradually became an attractive substitute for MSTS, covering more and more functionality and providing more and more benefits. I thus adapted some of them for OpenRails, preserving the compatibility with MSTS.
However, targeting two simulators imposes some tradeoffs, which become less and less relevant and more and more constraining over time.
I thus decided to build my next model (another French railcar built in the middle of the 50's) for OpenRails only. It won't work in MSTS anymore. This motivates my message in this section. The 3D of the body is now complete (a bit more than 70000 polygons). It isn't textured yet though. The interiors also remain to be built.

I also animate the French-speaking website and forum called ASW (not "A Small World"!): http://www.activitysimulatorworld.net, where other contributors are currently working on projects targeting OpenRails.

Regards

Very fine models, with nicely weathered textures. In theory, 70,000 polys should not be a problem for OR, but it might take some tweaking of the heirachy and testing.

Cheers Bazza.

Hi all. I'm new here and new to Open Rails too; fact is I'm pretty new to train sims of any kind. I played around with Trainz years ago, but that's about it. Anyway, I'm an avid modeler and I'm really looking forward to creating some content for OR. I'm a supporter of open source projects.

I have a love of vintage transportation of all kinds. I've been involved in creating content for Speed Dreams, the open source motorsport simulator. Years ago, I created/modified some content for MS flight sim. I can do some light coding, and created a engine dyno for Speed Dreams, to automatically create the xml code for the engine section of a Speed Dreams automobile. And for me, the research into creating something is half the fun. I think one of my strong points in 3D modeling is the ability to create relatively accurate models of obscure vehicles with no blueprints and sometimes poor reference photos.

1941 Oldsmobile

So that's my interests and resume.

I'm looking forward to learning something new around here.
