Hey everyone!

So...since I kept hearing about this new Open Rails project, I thought I'd give it a try. I'm able to sucessfully open the program, but when I select a route and activity....all I get is a grey screen with no video. I can hear the route's sounds just fine, but I can't see anything.

There is an error window that pops up that states: "System.InvalidOperation.Exception: Both a valid vertex shader and pixel shader need to be set on the device before any draw operations may be performed".

What does this mean? I've tried my video card help file, with no luck. I've searched the forums and haven't found anything. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can fix this? I'm using a Diamon Stealth S120 video card running ATI Catalyst.

Thanks!

James Bradley, Jr.

James, it appears that your graphics card my not be capable of running OR. When was the last time you upgraded your video drivers?

;)

James,
In looking up your video card, it appears that as installed your video card is at DirecX8.0 and Pixel Shader 1.0. It seems to support required DirectX 9.0 and Pixel Shader 2.0 that are the minimum requirements for Open Rails, so you may need to upgrade your video drivers to the latest version.

Here's some steps to help diagnose the issue

1. Run Dxdiag.exe to determine what your system has currently installed
2. Report back what DirectX and Pixel Shader level your system has, plus what OS

Thanks

Hey guys,

My video card is relatively new. I just purchased it a few months ago. I am running DirectX 9.0c. According to the specs for my card (Diamond Stealth S120), it uses Shader Model 3.0 for graphics, and runs MSTS with no problems.

Here are the specs on my computer:

Compaq Presario Model SR1214NX
AMD Athlon Processor with 2900+ processor
1024 MB of RAM
Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
Diamond Stealth S120 video card with 256 MB of memory
Display 1024x768 32-bit at 60 Hz

All DirectX tests are successful, and MSTS runs just fine. My video card uses the ATI Catalyst Control Center to adjust video card settings.

Is Smart Shader 3.0 and Pixel Shader the same thing?

Thanks again for your help!

No.

Have you got the latest drivers, as suggested?

Just because your video card is new doesn't mean you have the latest drivers available. The CD that comes with your card could be as much as a year old or more.
You need to go to their site and check it against the latest available drivers.
