The Uintah had two bobber cabooses, Numbers 1 and 2, and the only difference between them was their step and window arrangements. It is believed that they were both built in the Uintah shops at Atchee, CO in the early 1900s, and both were scrapped when the Uintah was abandoned in 1939. Both were built without a copula but had one added during a subsequent rebuild.

Note that the Uintah air loses were mounted higher than standard. This was to keep them out of the deep snow on Baxter Pass, and was permissible because the Uintah did not connect to or interchange with any other railroad.

The Uintah was established to transport Gilsonite (a mineral that looks like coal) from the mines in Eastern Utah to Mack, CO where it was transferred to standard gauge box cars for further distribution. This road had the sharpest curves (65 degrees or 88' radius), the steepest grades (7.5%), and the largest narrow gauge locomotives of any non cog railroad in the United States. Further information on this line can be had at my Uintah website at http://home.bresnan.net/~bpratt15/ A Uintah 0-6-2 tank locomotive has also been modeled and may be released soon.

This model was modeled from plans published in the Narrow Gauge Gazette. Howard Saunders performed all file and texture tweaking, lettering, testing, and furnished the screenie.

Enjoy, Bill
