Current test:
Test consist: K37 (35) + tender + 8 x tanker wagons + 1 caboose.
Test RR: CTRR, section Chamas via Lobato, to Cumbres Summit, ( moderate to steep climbing section ).

Times:
To Lobato, from Chamas, 16 minutes,
to Cumbres, from Chamas via Lobato, 1 hours 1 minute.

I think those are good times, given the prototypical speeds I made.

Cheers Bazza

How do those times seem to you, Herb? Thanks.

Cheers Bazza

On advice the following was changed:

Consist, reduced by three tankers to five. (K35/37ENG + Tender/WAG + five oil tankers + short bogie caboose.)

Some steam data in the ENG changed/corrected.

Chamas to Cumbres in 46 minutes, speeds higher, but still prototypical for the lesser loading. Need to find out if the duration is about right.

Good news:

As above.

Steam generation and usage now in ball-park figures; over use of steam produces boiler steam pressure drop. I wasn't able to do this with the incorrect data figures.

Noticed some coupler bunching when loco pulled up at Cumbres Summit.

Conclusions. Nice feel to the slog uphill. Gave the impression of a powerful locomotive that could handle the situation, but an easy hand on the throttle helped, too.

Initial times sound about right. It is 14 miles from Chama to Cumbres so that is a 14MPH run. Pretty much on the mark. C&TS allows an hour and a half for the run to Cumbres with Chama departure at 10 and Cumbres departure at 11:30, but that includes a water stop and a station stop. The second run at right around 20MPH is probably a bit fast for that hill. :bigboss:

Might need another tanker added. I don't know if he friction data is setup for this loco.....not sure if it's read yet in OR.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi'ya Herb, further testing with tweaked numbers in the ENG is proving somewhat confusing with the results of runs up the hill with the aforementioned consist. I have Hadrians' figures for the weights of the UTLX tankers, but can you confirm the overweight of a oil laden tank car, please? The loco is a bit lively at times, yet other times performs well on the hill. It could be my driving skill, or lack of it, but I believe the numbers need re-adjusting.

There are many factors in the OR physics that may not be fully operational yet and there is still a reliance on figures we use(d) for MSTS physics, so there may be some code fighting going on.

Early days, but I'm having fun.

32,000 lbs car, 60,000 lbs capacity = 92,000 lbs, or 56 tons of 2,000 lbs. About 8,570 gallons of light sweet crude at 7lbs per gallon. ;)

Well, let's see who gives out first....me, the train, or OR....thanks for the info, Herb.

FYI, a later version of OR has a more advanced train brakes setup...not quite for narrow gauge yet, but you never know......http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/sign_rockon.gif

Herb, 92,000lbs = 41.73 tonnes, which TS uses. I have the tonnage slightly under, so I'll readjust, gird my loins and start off at Lobato for another slog to Cumbres Summit.

Latest test :-
Chama, departed 1201,
Lobato, arrived 1215,
Cresco, arrived 1243,
Coxo, arrived 1257,
Cumbres, arrived 1305.

Consist tankers 5 x 41.73 tonnes. This is only about 7.5t more than the previous tonnage, but it has had a small effect on the performance. Generally, the guesstimated average speed on the Lobato - Cumbres section was about 11 to 12 mph, within the ballpark figure.

(The section Chama to Lobato was done before I re-adjusted the tonnage, so it was 7.5t lighter.)

Steam production against usage was mostly in the black, with a couple of minor BP drops on the steeper sections, but the drop was only about 2 PSI, from 195 PSI.

Coal and water consumption unknown.

No slippage was encountered - due to it not being part of the working physics yet (?)

No stops were made, except a couple of minutes at Lobato, from the previous test session.

No system lockup occurred, mainly because I wasn't mucking around in the 2 view, I think. I was swinging the view round when the previous test session locked up. I don't know if this coincided with a major scenery assets loading point, I was unable to do a screen capture. The point of lockup was about five minutes from Cumbres......http://www.elvastower.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/censored2.gif

Herb, do you have any idea what the air pipe charging rate is for NG, please?
