Adding more detail means greater chances of errors creeping in. Each render, or screenshot, serves a purpose. It's a snapshot of the model at particular point of progress. The modeler can have fun spotting the errors missed, thus needing to be fixed before releasing the next beta. Also to decide if some small details seen in a photo can safely be fitted here and there, like on the prototype. The locomotive maintainers were very good at the same thing......adding more parts to the locomotive over the years, let alone the multitude of modifications, some of which were very significant.

The joys of modeling.

Here is Beta 2.9, incorporating a lot of changes since 2.5. Versions 2.6 - 2.8 were not released.

Update coming soon.

The above full installation version b2.9 has been uploaded to the Beta Files section of the library and is available. Please, please, read the instructions carefully.

This version is NOT suitable for running in MSTS.

I'm already working on the next version, mainly minor details added and fixing a few things that OR shows up. A shape and texture update will be available soon.

Hey Capt,
This question may be premature but "inquiring minds want to know". :sign_thanks:

Is there anything, you know of yet, that I can do to projects presently under construction to improve their performance in OR?

Thanks, Bill

Bill, based on my improving knowledge, and you will need the next beta release anyway:

....make the model as you would for MSTS, using the standard MSTS model protocols,

....there should be a successful conversion to <shape>.S, you do not have to use ShapeFix.

....the shape does not have to load into MSTS as such, but it still has to load into the MSTS Activity Editor and appear in the right selection menu,

....in the MSTS AE, the object, ie locomotive, will be listed in the drop-down menu, however, when selected and dropped into the consist window below, the shape, if not compatible with MSTS, will be a replaced by a blue underline where that model is situated in the consist. I see this as mainly affecting very hi-poly locomotives, such as the K27 (OR).

....you make up the consist and activity details* as required, and save. I suggest you include OR somewhere in the file and shape name so it is identifiable from the MSTS stuff.

*As per my post.

The one thing I haven't done is compress the shape yet.

Hope that helps, Bill. Let me know if you want further information.

Cheers Bazza

Open Rail Experimental Locomotive
K27 Class Mikado (2-8-2) plus tender
Version b3.1 of 11 March 2010
By Captain Bazza

Version b3.1 of 11 March 2010

Updates shape (.S).
Requires the locomotive pre-installed as per previous instructions.
Fixes missing curtains, plus a tweak to part of the brake
fittings.

The shape file is now compressed and works okay in Open Rail.

File uploaded and approved.

Cheers Bazza

Here is the latest version, left n right hand sides, showing the level of detail now possible, thanks to Open Rail. Still under 42 thousand polys. To say I'm thrilled, is an understatement, thanks to the OR project team for all their work so far and in the future.
