For all the new members posting here, it'd be great to hear a bit of backstory about you. What about railroading excites you, if and where you like to railfan, what your favorite railroad(s) is, which simulators you've used, which you prefer and why, etcetera! You can start your own threads if you'd like.

Myself, I'm all about signals! (A cunning reference to the ancient book by that name, which I naturally studied as a child.)

I'm new here from the USA and glad to have found a site like this.

I'm 77 + and when I was about 11 or 12, I used to visit the guys in the lift-gate house, when the big steam locos would go by. I remember them all siting around a pot belly stove when it was cold (Watertown New York).
Then within a short time, the old steam locos dissapeared all at once, then
came the desiels. The end of an era had occurred.

I have loved trains all my life.

I built an "N" guage rail road for 5 yrs.(before divorce)

I have been running TRS12 and inluding TRS17 for more the 5 yrs.

Thanks Chrisopher, I have my favorite motto that fits my memories;

"I ain't dead yet" (a purpism)

Hi all,

I am 27 years old, grew up in Southern India and currently employed in Germany.

I love the railways. I believe them to be the lifeline of any country. Specifically, electric tractions interests me a lot. In India, we have the WAP4 class locomotives. They have huge traction forces which can accelerate
a 24 coach consist(about half a kilometer long) to 110kmph in 9 min. WAP4 class locomotives are sometimes called the workhorses of the Indian Railways and their horn, the best melodies I have ever heard.

I am happy to join the Elvas Tower forum and its very exciting to meet people with similar interests.

Best Day

Hi everyone my name is Jeffrey,
I'm 28 and from Philadelphia.

Growing up I've been train spotting and tinkering with model trains.
I recently came across trainsimulator and since I've realized that route building is an option I've been out to build a fictional route stretching across 3 states that serves commuter rail, Amtrak and freight as well as 3 subway routes and 2 light rail routes.

Hey Jeff, welcome to this board! I started w/ MSTS back in 2003 to see if the idea I had about a model railroad layout design could be tested/evaluated in MSTS. It didn't take me too long to figure out I could vastly more within a SIM than I could with a model railroad... and it would be vastly less expensive as well. I've never looked back.

Hello everyone.
My name is Alan Lyall. I am from Dalkeith in Scotland, conveniently close to Eskbank station on the new Borders Railway.
One of my friends asked me to make the Borders Railway, and that's what got me into this amazing hobby.
I'm using MSTS and Open Rails on Windows 7. I prefer to use Open Rails.
Over a year in and I have a driveable route but it has many problems which I am hoping to iron out, worst of which is the "Valley of the Kings" pyramid terrain.
I hope I can provide help and encouragement for beginners but I am nowhere near being an expert.
I'd appreciate access to the route building section of the forum please.

Learning all the time!
