I have been using a medium grey background since FS2002 or so, but I leave a set amount of space around the edges to avoid mipmap and other issues, consequently, I've yet to really have that problem, bar minor cases. On objects with textures that need to be split across several sections, I leave a half-pixel overlap, although the rounding from the UVW calculations usually takes care of this for me. Obviously, it helps to set the MIP LOD bias on the far end of the negative spectrum - I generally use -4. :)

The reefer model you see is completely unmapped and has no materials applied, it is for the sole purpose of matching coupler and air hose height as well as highlighting flaws that would otherwise be invisible. It's also useful for finding the actual polygon count of a model since it will tend to be exported in the equivalent of E-patch which is not something I want to work with when modelling.

George:

I'm afraid this Oakie-not-from-Muskogee didn't fully understand what you were trying to convey. Mind break breaking it down for me?

Thanks.
