Recently I've been experimenting with adding MSTS like AI trains to my home grown simulator. By MSTS like I mean AI trains the follow a fixed path. In the past I've built AI trains that determine their own path and follow an employee timetable. There are a number of issues with the timetable approach, so I decided to switch to MSTS like AI with paths. After I got the basic AI features working I decided to go future and add setout and pickup features. Here are some screen shots of AI setouts and pickups.

The first shot is the player train heading to Junction with a few cars for AI train 74. The red train74 on the cars is my implementation of waybill on car.

In the next shot we arrive at Junction in time to watch AI train x800 dropping off some cars for us.

After x800 leaves we runaround our train and swap our cars with the cars left by x800.

After we leave, AI train 74 shows up to collect its cars.

These AI trains use paths created in the bin version of AE. I use waiting points with special values in the waiting time to control coupling and uncoupling. At the moment these features only exist in my simulator, but it shouldn't be too difficult to port them to Open Rails.

Thats quite impressive. That sure would be a nice addition to any simulator.

Indeed VERY impressive. On your own you have developed FUNCTIONING AI interaction. Well done!

I tell you guys... things are looking UP for our trusty ol' MSTS.
