OPEN RAILS CB&Q Branch Line Combines 3533, 3538, and 2716

CARS PROVIDED IN "MID" AND "END OF TRAIN" (EOT) VERSIONS

These models have been constructed to represent how they would have appeared from the 1940's onward

Research sources of note for this project:

Burlington Passenger Car Roster - 1869 - 1930's © 1987, by William Glick
Burlington Passenger Car Photo Album © 2007, by William Glick
Passenger Cars of the Burlington - 1869 to the 1930's © 1986, by William Glick

Cars 3533 and 3538 in this set represent a group of Heavyweight cars numbered 3530 to 3538 that the CB&Q converted by branch line use in 1948 and 1949. These cars were converted from 1094 vintage coaches from the PB-13, PB-13A, and PC-3A classes. These combination cars feature Passenger, Bunk, and Baggage compartments. Combine 3533 is depicted here in Pullman Green, and 3538 is depicted in freight Mineral Red which is the color most of these cars had. These cars were very basic, not having electric lights or water systems, and were equipped with coal stoves rather than steam heat.

Car 2716 was originally built in 1927 by the St. Louis Car Co. as a Gas Electric Motorcar numbered 9724. In 1943 this car was converted into an unpowered Combine car for branch line and mixed train service with passenger, baggage, and mail compartments. This car would be representative of many former Motorcars which were converted in this way in the 1940's.

MODELING INFORMATION:

Heavyweight Combine models created in 3DCrafter Professional Edition, Version 9.1.1 (Build 1256). Post Processing of shape file performed with Shapefixer File Version 0.1.0.39 by Paul Gausden. Textures created using MS Paint, Photoshop Elements 6.0, Corel PaintShop Pro X5, and converted to .ace format by TGATool2A and/or AceIt by Scott Miller.

NOTE: These cars have been specifically built with re-lettering and re-numbering in mind. The lettering and numbers are applied to the cars in a separate FreightAnim shape file, and can be replaced by a custom made FreightAnim shape file as desired.

INSTALLATION:

Unzip CB&Q_OR_Branch_Combines.zip to a temporary folder.

Move the folder named "CBQBranchCombines" to the TRAINSET folder in your MSTS / Open Rails installation

When finished, you will have a new folder in your main TRAINSET folder called "CBQBranchCombines"

NOTES ON BUILDING CONSISTS WITH THE DIFFERENT .wag FILE TYPES SUPPLIED:

Included in this release are two versions of each car. The "End of Train" (EOT) version has lighted marker lamps on the rear of the car. The "Mid-Train" versions do not have the marker lamps present. To specify either mid train or end of train cars, use the following two .wag files as described:

Car is in the middle of the train: cbqcombine3533.wag

Car is the last one in the consist: cbqcombine3533eot.wag

Car Numbers 3538 or 2716 may be substituted in the examples above.

SPECIAL FEATURE - ANIMATED DOORS

The left and right baggage, mail, and passenger compartment doors are animated and will open / close on these cars.

In Open Rails the doors are opened / closed by pressing Q (left doors), or SHIFT + Q (right doors)

SOUNDS:

As provided these cars utilize default sounds, but I recommend the "3 Axle HW Sound Update" by Steven West. This can be downloaded from the following locations:

At Elvastower.com: http://www.elvastowe...
At Trainsim.com: http://www.trainsim....

To use these sounds follow the readme instructions included with the download and install the SOUND folder into the "CBQBranchCombines" TRAINSET folder.

To update these cars to the new sounds, simply copy and paste the following exterior and interior sound lines into the .wag files:

Exterior Sounds: Sound ( "3axleEXT.sms" )

This replaces the line "Sound ( "genpasswagsteam.sms" )" in the .wag files

Interior Sounds: Sound ( "3axleCoach1INT.sms" )

This replaces the line "Sound ( "genpasswagsteam.sms" )" in the Inside section of the .wag files
