When the City of London assumed control of the L&PS they breathed new life into its passenger
operations. By 1917 traffic had increased to the point where additional rolling stock was needed.
At that time the Pennsylvania Railroad were transitioning to an all steel passenger roster and
were selling off its wood bodied cars. L&PS management were able to purchase these four coaches,
No 13, 15, 17 and 19 used from the PRR for $4968 each. These class PK coaches, the ultimate
development in wood body cars, were 62 feet long with a capacity of 60 passengers. They didn't
have control stations, but the L&PS added MU cables to permit them to travel in the middle of a
train. The original cars had Pintsch Gas lighting. Electric lights were eventually installed, but
the Pintsch gas tanks and hardware remained.
They survived to the end of passenger operations on the L&PS and were finally scrapped in the
late 1950's.
